The First Cut

Where passion meets purpose

Every legend starts somewhere. For Spinn — born Giang Phong — it started with a pair of borrowed clippers and a mirror in a small room in Da Nang. No formal training, no mentor. Just an obsession with making people look sharper than they walked in.

While his friends chased office jobs, Spinn spent his nights watching tutorials, studying face shapes, and practicing fades on anyone willing to sit still. He wasn't building a career — he was discovering a calling.

Within months, word spread. Friends became clients. Clients became regulars. The small room became too small.

The Grind

Earning every stripe

Spinn joined established barbershops across Da Nang — not for the paycheck, but for the reps. He cut 15 to 20 heads a day. Fades, tapers, scissor cuts, razor work. Every style, every texture, every difficult client who said 'just a little off the top' but meant something entirely different.

He studied under older barbers who taught him discipline: how to hold a conversation while executing a perfect line-up, how to read a client's lifestyle from their hands and shoes, how to turn a 30-minute appointment into an experience worth coming back for.

These years weren't glamorous. Long hours, sore hands, and the constant pressure to be faster without sacrificing precision. But Spinn understood — mastery isn't given, it's ground out one haircut at a time.

Going Solo

A reputation takes shape

By 2021, Spinn had built something no shop could contain: a personal following. Clients didn't come for the brand on the door — they came for him. They'd reschedule their week around his availability. They'd drive across the city. They'd bring their sons.

He started taking private appointments — at hotels, resorts, and homes of clients who valued discretion and convenience. A businessman before a board meeting. A groom on his wedding morning. A traveler who heard about him through a friend of a friend.

This period taught Spinn something crucial: barbering isn't just about skill. It's about trust. People don't hand you a razor because you're talented — they hand it to you because they believe in you.

Athena Is Born

A vision becomes a space

Athena wasn't planned on a spreadsheet. It was built from years of knowing exactly what a barbershop should feel like — and what it shouldn't. No neon lights. No loud music fighting for attention. No rushing through cuts to hit a quota.

Spinn designed every detail: the dark, minimal interior that lets you decompress the moment you walk in. The cocktail menu that turns a haircut into an occasion. The lighting that makes the mirror feel like a stage, not a judgment.

The name Athena — goddess of wisdom and craft — reflects the philosophy: intelligence in every decision, artistry in every cut. This isn't a barbershop that happened to be good. It was engineered to be exceptional.

The Standard

Raising the bar, every single day

Today, Athena Barber Shop is where Da Nang's most discerning men come to be taken care of. Not just their hair — their confidence, their presentation, their ritual of self-respect.

Spinn leads a handpicked team of barbers trained in his methodology: listen first, assess second, cut third. Every client leaves not just looking better, but understanding their own style more clearly than before.

And the private service continues — now elevated. From five-star resorts to private villas, Spinn brings the full Athena experience anywhere it's needed. Because style doesn't wait, and neither does he.

“A great haircut should feel natural, comfortable, and easy to maintain — not just look good the moment you leave the chair.”

— Spinn (Giang Phong), Founder
